PRESERVATIONIST OF THE YEAR
Dorothy Byer Alexander
Dorothy was recognized for her leadership and efforts in the preservation of the African American community that had existed on Fels (Fells) Lane. Her work expanded into the formation of the Howard County African American History Project Committee, a part of the Howard County Historical Society. Dorothy is leading the documentation of the community of Fells Lane and Hilltop with rotating exhibits featured at the Original Howard County Courthouse and permanent outdoor signage at lot F withing the next year.
Allen was recognized for his extensive research in preserving the history of the Howard County Police Department. Allen's work led to a re-write and teaching of this history to the Howard County Plice Academy classes, research to recreate the Sheriffs' first police car and was instrumental in the opening of the Howard County Police Museum.
