The Howard County Conservancy is Howard County's own land trust,
founded to help preserve our natural environment, agricultural resources,
and unique historic sites.

Howard County Genealogical Society

The Howard County Genealogical Society publishes and sells many publications relevant to genealogical research in and around Howard County. Speakers at the Society's monthly meetings provide insight and guidance in genealogical research.

Howard County Historical Society

The Howard County Historical Society library houses Howard County’s official archive of retired documents of historical value, many of which date to the early 19th Century. These include deeds, marriage licenses, and property records.

Howard County Historic District Commission
- The Department of Planning and Zoning provides a document outlining the work of the Historic Commission
and answers questions about modifying the exterior of historic buildings in the
county's two historic districts.

Maryland Historical Trust

The Maryland Historical Trust provides preservation grants,
maintains an inventory of historic sites, and sells educational materials and maps.

National Trust for Historic Preservation

Founded in 1949, the National Trust provides leadership, education and
advocacy to save America's diverse historic places and revitalize our communities.
The site features historic travel destinations, old house fix-up tips, news,
shopping ideas, and more.

Preservation Maryland

The statewide organization provides funds for historic restoration
and supports legislative issues related to preserving historic resources.
It also sponsors an annual conference on restoration.

Recent Past Preservation Network

RPPN's mission is to promote the preservation of buildings from the recent
past and help others who are trying to do the same. Too often we lose important buildings that
are less than fifty-years old, buildings that are considered "out of style," or buildings that are
declared "non-contributing" to history at the civic, state, or national level.

Vision Howard County

Vision Howard County is a nonprofit civic organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Howard County. The organization is writing a Report on Leading Indicators for Howard County with publication expected in the spring of 2002.
