PHC 2007 Preservation Awards Waverly Mansion

On Sunday, November 4, PHC hosted a reception honoring the 2007 Preservationists of the Year. The recipients of the awards were:

Enalee and Roland Bounds were given the Senator James Clark, Jr. Award, in recognition of their contribution and leadership over the years to the preservation of Ellicott City and Howard County history and heritage.

Bill Miller, in recognition of his contribution and leadership in the preservation of the Woodlawn Slave Quarters.

Howard County Genealogical Society, in recognition of Doris Edwards for her contribution and leadership in the computerization of Howard County marriage licenses.

Howard County Genealogical Society, in recognition of Carolyn and Charles Denton for their contribution and leadership in the inventory of Howard County cemeteries headstone inscriptions.

Howard County Center of African American Culture, in recognition of Wylene Burch for her contribution in the preservation of African American history, heritage and culture.

The Columbia Association in recognition of Maggie Brown for her contribution and leadership in the preservation of the Woodlawn Slave Quarters.

UPDATE! On October 1, 2007, Howard County Executive Ken Ulman announced that the County has signed a letter of intent to purchase the U.S. Post Office building in order "to preserve another important piece of Ellicott City's history forever." Read more...
